Starting pay rate $19.00 per hour
POSITION OVERVIEW: The ideal candidate will be adaptable to changing business needs, flexible with work schedules, and eager to learn and take on various tasks. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, as the candidate will be responsible for safely moving and operating equipment. Additionally, the Yard Driver will perform routine inspections, basic maintenance, and ensure equipment is kept in good working order. This is a non-exempt position.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct daily and weekly inspections of assigned equipment using provided checklists.
- Perform basic maintenance to ensure equipment remains in good condition.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all equipment.
- Follow all safety protocols when operating and moving equipment.
- Move containers between warehouse docks, doors, and parking spots in the yard. Open and close container doors as needed during dock operations.
- Assist the reach stacker operator with chassis swaps for over-the-road dispatches.
- Organize the yard and warehouses by completing necessary equipment movements as instructed by supervisors or managers.
- Plug and unplug refrigerated containers (reefers) into 480V power outlets as needed.
- Keep accurate records of all equipment movements and fuel usage.
- Perform any additional tasks assigned by the Operations Superintendent or Manager.
Job Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- California Driver’s License (Class A preferred but not required as yard trucks remain on the premises).
- Safe driving record.
- At least 1 year of experience operating yard trucks or commercial trucks that haul containers or trailers.
- Experience in an intermodal fleet environment is a plus.
- Strong work ethic and a safety-first mindset.
- Goal-oriented and self-motivated team player.
- Ability to adapt to schedule changes, including overtime, weekends, and holidays, based on business needs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequent stepping in and out of trucks to connect and disconnect brake hoses, as well as opening and closing container doors.
- Plugging and unplugging refrigerated containers into 480V outlets when required.
- Tasks may involve walking, bending, twisting, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, and reaching to complete job responsibilities.

JOB TITLE: GATE CLERK - DISPATCHER
POSITION OVERVIEW: The person on this role must be adaptable and flexible to perform the role of Gate Clerk and of Dispatcher depending on the business need of the moment. Both positions require the candidate to be a fast learner of computer systems and have basic knowledge of Excel spreadsheets. This is a non-exempt position. The following are the responsibilities for each of the roles:
GATE CLERK:
- Provide a secure entrance to the facility by keeping record of visitors/vendors
- Manage the flow of truck through facilities gate by providing them clear directions
- Ensure Chiquita’s intermodal equipment leaving the yard is in the appropriate condition to go over the road and is received in the yard in good condition – report any damage or inconsistency identified
- Complete necessary system input and forms deemed appropriate by management, such as but not limited to: ELR (Equipment Lease Receipt), BOL, drayage control records, temperature check, report of events (i.e. damages to equipment and property, theft, presence of unauthorized persons).
- Support the dray to and from the port by providing the necessary paperwork to drivers going to the port, directions to drivers in-gating from the port and updating the moves in the system.
- Keep the equipment inventory updated and accurate in the system as well as the fruit inventory through the check in and out of drivers picking up orders of fruit.
- Coordinate with maintenance the inspection of equipment received with damages
- Assist in physical inventory of equipment
- Assist in order and cleanliness of the premises
- Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
DISPATCHER:
- Timely assign appointment slots in the Company’s system for fruit orders, liner Southbound trans-loads and liner Northbound pick-ups.
- Check in and out the drivers picking up “live loads” at the warehouse.
- Handle the temperature recorders to the drivers based on the type assigned to each customer.
- Ensure the temperature setting instructions are properly printed on the documentation and understood by the carriers and/or operations.
- File all the documentation associated with each fruit order dispatched (check-in sheets, pick slips, loading sheets when necessary, BL, ELR, etc.).
- Assign the fruit to the orders at least 24 hours in advance following FIFO principle and restrictions based on specific customers.
- Coordinate with Customer Service and Accounting the timely return to the inventory of fruit rejected by customers to guarantee inventory accuracy and seek the re-utilization of the fruit for another customer, following Quality and Sales directions.
- Through the correct assignment and follow up of the fruit inventory, minimize the loss of fruit.
- Participate in the monthly physical fruit inventory and provide all supports needed for the inventory reconciliation report.
- Support management on any additional request needed.

- When at the gate, the incumbent may be sitting at a desk and performing tasks on the computer and alternating with going outdoors to inspect equipment coming in or going out of the yard. Incumbent may stand for long periods of time.
- The incumbent will be exposed to an environment with heavy equipment traffic
- The incumbent will need to plug and unplug reefer containers to 480V outlets
