Job Summary

Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor and Team Leader, the Shuttle Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient movement, parking, and preparation of vehicles throughout various stages of the logistics process. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and the ability to operate vehicles in a fast-paced port environment.


Key Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities (40–90%)

  • Safely drive and park vehicles according to established vehicle-handling procedures
  • Follow assigned routes or schedules while obeying all traffic laws and port regulations
  • Maintain constant communication with the Team Leader regarding pickup and drop-off locations
  • Inspect vehicles prior to operation to ensure they are damage-free and functioning properly
  • Adhere to all port traffic policies and posted speed limits
  • Immediately report accidents, incidents, unsafe conditions, or road hazards to management
  • Document and report mechanical issues or vehicle damage
  • Read and understand parking location maps and instructions

Secondary Responsibilities (20–40%)

  • Prepare vehicles for various stages of processing, including:
    • Tire pressure checks using handheld gauges
    • Battery condition checks using handheld equipment
    • Driving vehicles on and off conveyors
    • Removing exterior and interior protective plastic wrap
    • Driving vehicles to fueling stations and through automated car washes
    • Removing trash from vehicles
    • Completing required checklists and scans

Tertiary Responsibilities (5–20%)

  • Perform vehicle spotting for other drivers or customers
  • Support scanning and tracking functions for vehicle movement
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant driving or vehicle-handling experience preferred

Licenses

  • Valid driver’s license required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to drive both automatic and manual (stick shift) vehicles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic counting
  • Strong depth perception and hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to understand and follow vehicle-handling procedures
  • Strong attention to safety and situational awareness

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and driving (3–5+ hours per day)
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 55 lbs
  • Use of handheld scanners and equipment
  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, vehicle exhaust, dust, and pollen
  • Operation of cars, vans, and buses
