Lab Technician (Food Manufacturing – Spices & Seasonings)

Position Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Lab Technician to support quality control and food safety operations within our spice and seasoning laboratory. This role is responsible for conducting routine laboratory testing, documenting results, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with company, customer, and regulatory standards.

The Lab Technician works closely with Quality Assurance, Procurement, R&D, and Production to verify product specifications, evaluate supplier materials, and support ongoing quality initiatives. This position requires strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to follow standardized procedures in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.


Responsibilities

Sample Handling & Documentation

  • Receive, label, and log incoming raw material and finished product samples.

  • Maintain accurate tracking in sample registers and digital systems.

  • Organize retained samples to ensure proper traceability.

  • Review supplier documentation including specifications and Certificates of Analysis (COAs).

Laboratory Testing

  • Perform routine quality testing including:

    • Moisture content

    • Water activity (Aw)

    • Particle size / sieve analysis

    • Color comparison (spectrophotometry)

    • Bulk density and flowability

    • Organoleptic evaluations (aroma, flavor, appearance)

  • Conduct detailed inspections of incoming ingredients.

  • Record results accurately in spreadsheets, logs, and databases.

  • Report any non-conforming results to QA or Technical Management.

Equipment & Compliance

  • Clean, calibrate, and perform basic maintenance on lab equipment.

  • Follow GMP, HACCP, allergen control, and food safety procedures.

  • Assist with shelf-life studies and periodic product evaluations.

  • Maintain laboratory organization and complete daily/weekly housekeeping tasks.

  • Support internal audits and ensure documentation is audit-ready.

  • Monitor and restock laboratory supplies as needed.

Job Requirements:

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field preferred.

  • 1–2 years of experience in food manufacturing, QA/QC, or laboratory environment preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of food safety practices (HACCP training a plus).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.

JOB SUMMARY

The Gate Attendant reports trucks into the ERP system and notifies Mission’s 3PL customers. This person also conducts C-TPAT 8-point inspections on every inbound container to uphold supply chain security. The Gate Attendant will work with Shipping, Security, Operations, and Food Safety to streamline inbound freight management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Check in trucks with the ERP system.
  • Complete and maintain truck/visitor sign-in/out logs.
  • Send check-in/out notifications via email for Mission and 3PL customers.
  • CTPAT (8-point inspection, container inbound seal verification.)
  • Employee and visitor badge verification.
  • Ability to understand appointment schedules on Excel/spreadsheets.
  • Check out containers.
  • Watch for irregular or unusual conditions and report to proper management.
  • Permit only authorized persons and vehicles to enter the property.
  • Must be safety conscious.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and pay attention to details.
  • Must be able to multitask.
  • Have basic computer knowledge.
  • Must be flexible.
  • Check all incoming and outgoing vehicles for correct merchandise and correct quantities.
