Job Opening: Maintenance Mechanic
Description
We’re seeking a hands-on Maintenance professional—either a Maintenance Mechanic or Industrial Electrician—to support equipment reliability and uptime in a food manufacturing environment. You’ll execute preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, and partner closely with Operations, QA, and Sanitation to meet safety, quality, and production goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production, packaging, and facility equipment using a CMMS (create/close work orders, document parts/labor).
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic controls issues to root cause; implement durable fixes.
- Support changeovers, line startups, and continuous improvement (SMED, 5S, OEE, kaizen).
- Maintain compliance with GMPs, HACCP/SQF, allergen control, and food safety/quality procedures; complete maintenance in a way that protects product integrity.
- Follow LOTO, NFPA 70E, arc-flash boundaries, and safe work practices; use appropriate PPE and calibrated tools.
- Collaborate with Production, Sanitation, and QA to schedule work with minimal downtime; escalate risks promptly.
- Identify and requisition spare parts; help optimize spares inventory and vendor coordination.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, P&IDs, and work instructions.
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA), CAPA, and reliability projects; contribute ideas to improve MTBF and reduce unplanned downtime.
Qualifications
Required (either profile):
- 3+ years in industrial maintenance in manufacturing (food/beverage/CPG strongly preferred).
- Proficiency in mechanical and/or electrical troubleshooting in a fast-paced plant.
- Experience with CMMS, PM execution, and documentation.
- Solid safety record; working knowledge of LOTO, machine guarding, and hazard recognition.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics; use precision measuring tools.
- Basic computer skills (CMMS, email, parts lookup); effective communication across shifts.
- Ability to work assigned shift, OT, and weekends as needed.
Preferred:
- Food industry experience with GMPs, HACCP/SQF, allergen control, and sanitation coordination.
- Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs/HMIs, VFDs (PowerFlex or similar), and industrial networks (EtherNet/IP).
- Certifications: Journeyman Electrician, Industrial Maintenance Technician, or related.
- Knowledge of NFPA 70E, NEC, OSHA requirements; forklift/aerial lift certification.
- Basic fabrication/welding; pump and valve rebuild experience.
- Familiarity with OEE, SMED, 5S, and RCA.
