POSITION OVERVIEW: The person on this role must be adaptable and flexible to perform the role of Gate Clerk and of Dispatcher depending on the business need of the moment. Both positions require the candidate to be a fast learner of computer systems and have basic knowledge of Excel spreadsheets. This is a non-exempt position. The following are the responsibilities for each of the roles:

 

GATE CLERK:

  • Provide a secure entrance to the facility by keeping record of visitors/vendors
  • Manage the flow of truck through facilities gate by providing them clear directions
  • Ensure Chiquita’s intermodal equipment leaving the yard is in the appropriate condition to go over the road and is received in the yard in good condition – report any damage or inconsistency identified
  • Complete necessary system input and forms deemed appropriate by management, such as but not limited to: ELR (Equipment Lease Receipt), BOL, drayage control records, temperature check, report of events (i.e. damages to equipment and property, theft, presence of unauthorized persons).
  • Support the dray to and from the port by providing the necessary paperwork to drivers going to the port, directions to drivers in-gating from the port and updating the moves in the system.
  • Keep the equipment inventory updated and accurate in the system as well as the fruit inventory through the check in and out of drivers picking up orders of fruit.
  • Coordinate with maintenance the inspection of equipment received with damages
  • Assist in physical inventory of equipment
  • Assist in order and cleanliness of the premises
  • Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.

DISPATCHER:

  • Timely assign appointment slots in the Company’s system for fruit orders, liner Southbound trans-loads and liner Northbound pick-ups.
  • Check in and out the drivers picking up “live loads” at the warehouse.
  • Handle the temperature recorders to the drivers based on the type assigned to each customer.
  • Ensure the temperature setting instructions are properly printed on the documentation and understood by the carriers and/or operations.
  • File all the documentation associated with each fruit order dispatched (check-in sheets, pick slips, loading sheets when necessary, BL, ELR, etc.).
  • Assign the fruit to the orders at least 24 hours in advance following FIFO principle and restrictions based on specific customers.
  • Coordinate with Customer Service and Accounting the timely return to the inventory of fruit rejected by customers to guarantee inventory accuracy and seek the re-utilization of the fruit for another customer, following Quality and Sales directions.
  • Through the correct assignment and follow up of the fruit inventory, minimize the loss of fruit.
  • Participate in the monthly physical fruit inventory and provide all supports needed for the inventory reconciliation report.
  • Support management on any additional request needed.

Job Summary: Responsible for coordinating the overall scheduling and dispatching of delivery operations by communicating with truck drivers through computers, phones or two-way radios. Assign drivers to trucks and make sure that they leave and arrive on schedule. Available at all times to answer any questions from drivers, help them avoid traffic jams and keep them aware of inclement weather ahead. Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner. Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company.

Responsibilities:

• Dispatchers keep track of the progress drivers make along their route by using available technology.

• Check drivers in and out of terminals and transfer the trip records into a company’s files.

• Communicate with drivers on a daily basis but must handle any requests and complaints from customers.

• Calculate miles for all trucks.

• Determine travel and route times so that delivery costs can be accurately determined.

  • SUMMARY The production operator is assigned to a specific work area on a production shift. He or she is responsible for the efficient operation of the production equipment and required to perform the following duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Must work safely and maintain a safe, clean work environment, and perform available work as required by the supervisor
  • Responsible for startup, adjustment, and shut down of the extruder, haul off, saw, die, oil heater, steam tank, water tank, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Perform the primary thinking encompassed by this job description.
  • Able to read, operate and understand all controls and warning devices along with making die, motor RPM, temperature, and pipe wall adjustments for producing products according to manufacturing standards with minimum supervision.
  • Perform detailed and accurate record-keeping in computer data system.
  • Be familiar with product standards and specifications.
  • Inspect pipe on-line as required and each finished pack or reel before adding it to finished inventory.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Start up and shut down an extrusion line.
  • An A level operator perform all duties required of Production “C” and “B” operators.
  • Assist in the training of Production “C” and “B” operators.
  • A C or B Operator performs all duties and SOPs as listed in the Quality Manual
  • Prepare production reports and maintain records of machine settings.
  • Monitor and make proper machine adjustments as required to ensure product quality, safe operation and optimal output of assigned production lines.
  • Demonstrated ability to make die changes.
