Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Roofer to install, repair, and maintain roofs using materials such as composition shingles, wood shingles, asphalt, and gravel. This role focuses on waterproofing structures by performing roofing installations safely and accurately.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Cut roofing paper to size and secure it with nails or staples in overlapping strips to create a proper base layer.
- Align roofing materials with roof edges and overlap successive layers using chalk lines, shingling hatchet gauges, or pre-marked shingle lines.
- Fasten composition shingles or sheets using asphalt, cement, or nails.
- Punch holes in slate, tile, terra cotta, or wooden shingles to prepare them for installation.
- Cut flashing strips and fit them around vents, walls, and intersecting roof surfaces.
- Mop or pour hot asphalt or tar onto roof surfaces when applying asphalt or tar-and-gravel systems.
- Apply alternating layers of hot asphalt or tar and roofing paper to meet specified roof thickness and waterproofing standards.
- Apply gravel or pebbles to the top layer of tar or asphalt roofs.
- Construct and attach prefabricated roof sections to rafters.
- Attach shingles to exterior walls and apply roofing paper and tar to shower pans, decks, and promenades for waterproofing.
Qualifications
- Experience in residential or commercial roofing.
- Ability to work with various roofing materials including shingles, tile, and asphalt.
